R1 – Addition

R1 Addition in Wave Numbers math is straightforward. Opposite Values with Opposite Signs cancel each other out.  It is commutative and associative. See examples below:

Examples of R1 Addition

  • 1^ + 0 = 1^
  • 1v + 0 = 1v
  • 1^ + 1v  = 0
  • 1v + 1^  = 0
    • This shows that addition is commutative

  • 0 + 0 = 0
    • Note that 0 is neither ^ nor v

  • 4^ + 6^  = 10^
  • 4^ + 6^ + 3v  = 7^
  • 4v + 6^ + 3v  = 1v
  • (4v+ 6^) + 3v = 1v
  • 4v+ (6^ + 3v) = 1v
    • This shows that addition is associative
